Since 1959 this Non Profit Club has been hosting members and groups of Alcoholics Anonymous and other Twelve Step Programs. In 1957 there was a need for a gathering place. There were two AA meetings locally and in between meetings there was no place for AA members to gather, relax, and hold informal meetings. A committee, comprised of ED D., Ed F., and Wesley P., found the first property located at 101 NE 1 St. were the Club received its namesake. The 101 Club Inc. becomes a reality.
The 101 Club officially opens in November 1970
As noted, the 101 Club, named after its original address became the local gathering place for AA members for ten productive and happy years. After outgrowing its first location, the club purchases the land were we currently are for $9,000 and begins construction of this club house on April 1, 1970 by members, too numerous to count. September 1970, before completion, an extension cord was brought in from a power pole. With a single light bulb, the 1st meeting of the Pompano Mens Group was held.
Today the 101 Club hosts 26 meetings per week
Today, the club remains a safe haven for twelve step work to be performed. Many individuals will tell you that this club house and the fellowship it surrounds has saved their lives. I for one, will be forever grateful to the men and woman who came before us, who selfishly gave of their time and talents to create these beautiful four walls. As always, we encourage membership and involvement. Service work is a key element of us keeping our gift. "Faith Without Works is Dead"
